Change Your Routine To Something That Fits You
By JD Esajian on May 5, 2014There are times in your investing business when things will get monotonous and you will feel that you are constantly repeating yourself. In time, the business will start to get stale. If you are not producing, you will quickly lose interest and eventually get out of the business. Many investors forget that one of the reasons they got into real estate is for the flexibility that their schedule can provide. You are not forced to punch a clock and sit at a desk for eight hours. If you are bored with the way things are going you can change them at any time. Taylor your schedule to what fits your style.
There is nothing wrong with following a system and a schedule that is working. Problems usually arise when you keep doing things the same way with the same poor results. You are the CEO of your investing business and can do it any way you like. If you want to work from a coffee shop instead of your home office you can. If you want to spend the day in your car with your phone off looking at properties you can do that as well. It is up to you to find what works best for you and for your situation. If something isn’t working there is nobody else to look at besides you to make a change.
If you are in a rut try starting your day off with a walk or some exercise. Studies show that those who start their day moving will be more productive throughout it. If you are the type of person who works hard until lunch and then slows down you can do some exercise in the afternoon. The bottom line is that if something isn’t working and you want to change it you can. Unless you are working with a partner there is nobody to hold you accountable except yourself. You have the freedom to experiment to see what works best for you and your business and when. If you aren’t happy with how things are going and you don’t make a change you have no reason to complain.
It is not always easy to do but in times when you are slow you need to do some self-examination. Try to get to the bottom of exactly why you are having problems. Is it from your work ethic or the manner in which you approach your business? Only when you get to the bottom of your problems can you fix them. As an investor there isn’t a boss looking over your shoulder telling you what you need to improve in and how you need to do it. You can look at other successful investors and model how they do things but what works for someone may not work for you. Once you get into a routine of how you want to work you will start to enjoy the business again but until this happens you should be constantly experimenting and tweaking.
You have the power to do something different every day if you are not happy with how things are going. Only you can change how you work, but you are in a business that will allow you make these changes. If you don’t push yourself to change nobody will do it for you.
